Empowering Careers: The Rees Jeffreys Road MSc Bursary Scheme 2024-2025

The Rees Jeffreys Road Fund Trustees are thrilled to announce the continuation of their Transport MSc Bursary programme for the academic year 2024-25. This initiative aims to foster the growth of professionals in the transport sector by offering financial support to individuals pursuing a transport-related MSc.

The Bursary programme is open to both newcomers to the transport industry and current sector employees seeking to enhance their professional skills and knowledge. Eight bursaries, each amounting to £10,000, will be awarded for the academic year, with funds disbursed in stage payments throughout the study.

These funds target individuals who may face financial constraints in pursuing an MSc, thereby enabling a diverse range of applicants to explore various transport-related topics. Whether you're a career changer, mid-career professional, or recent graduate, the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund welcomes applications from individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

The Sponsorship emphasises its commitment to supporting those strongly dedicated to developing or advancing a career in the UK Transport Sector, which financial barriers would otherwise hinder. The Bursaries cover both full and part-time studies, with the primary intention of alleviating the burden of course fees.

Prospective MSc students interested in applying for the Bursary are encouraged to reach out to one of the 13 universities listed on the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund website (www.reesjeffreys.co.uk/bursaries) that offer transport-related MSc programmes. It is essential to note that all inquiries and applications should be directed through the universities rather than contacting the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund directly. The deadline for universities to apply for a Bursary on behalf of students is 10 am on Friday, 28th June 2024.

Ginny Clarke, Chair of the Trustees, emphasises the critical role of professionals in the highways sector and the importance of their expertise in ensuring efficient and safe roads for everyone. The Trustees are dedicated to honouring the legacy of founder William Rees Jeffreys by providing access to high-quality professional education through the MSc bursary scheme.

One success story from the previous year is Georgia Turner, who used the Bursary to pursue an MSc in Road Management and Engineering at the University of Birmingham. Turner expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the qualification gave her the confidence to advance her career. She successfully transitioned from planned maintenance to project engineering, specialising in designing and implementing Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS).

Georgia Turner, a distinguished awardee of the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund MSc Bursary, received this esteemed scholarship in 2021 to undertake advanced studies in Road Management and Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

Aspiring candidates can find more inspiration from additional case studies on the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund website. These stories showcase the transformative impact of the MSc Bursary scheme on individuals' careers and the highways sector.

The Rees Jeffreys Road MSc Bursary Scheme is a beacon of opportunity for those passionate about contributing to the transport sector. By providing financial support, the Fund aims to empower individuals to pursue advanced education, fostering a new generation of knowledgeable and skilled professionals dedicated to building and maintaining robust and effective transportation systems in the UK.
